Which wicket-keeper can succeed Dhoni as the next big thing of Indian cricket?

Indian cricket has seen a host of young wicket-keeper batsmen ready to step up, and don the national colours. But how many of them are indeed worthy for international cricket.

Somewhat similar to the great Sachin Tendulkar, the name Mahendra Singh Dhoni represents a legend who echoes with Indian cricket. Whether it's the World Cup, Champions Trophy or the World T20, the former Indian captain has achieved almost everything there is in international cricket.

But, ever since renouncing his captaincy from limited-overs cricket earlier this year, Dhoni has struggled to score runs in a format where he once ruled like no other. A man who used to hog the limelight and win games for his side single-handedly has now been reduced to a sideshow. The 35-year-old is literally fighting to stay relevant in a sport which has witnessed a spurt of young guns, threatening to replicate what he's been doing for so many years.Indian cricket is still struggling to find his worthy successor.

No player had emerged as Dhoni's perfect replacement - a successor who can carry on the legacy of being an able finisher, that too with some charisma.

1.} The obvious choice for the Indian selectors after Dhoni’s retirement was Wriddhiman Saha – a player who has proven himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also in the domestic circuit.
Saha did not have a good start to his Test career, in spite of his performances off late, Saha has not shown the brilliance which was synonymous with Dhoni, and as a result, it seems that his spot in the team is still under scrutiny.

2.]

Rishabh Pant May Be The MS Dhoni Successor That India Is Looking For.

Rishab, also a wicket-keeper, made 267 runs at the U-19 World Cup.The Delhi left-hander is a far more powerful striker of the ball. His selection in the T20 team is an indication that he is being seriously looked at as Mahendra Singh Dhoni's successor in shorter formats as Wriddhiman Saha still remains India's first choice in Test matches.

Pant had a wonderful domestic season, where he went on to score the fastest Ranji Trophy century. However, with lack of experience, selectors believe Pant has a lot to prove. With his explosive batting and energetic keeping, Pant has emerged as one of the leading contenders to fill into the stalwart’s big shoes.

The competition for becoming the next regular wicket-keeper of the Indian cricket team is quite clearly heating up, and though Wriddhiman Saha remains the favourite for now, it will take more impressive performances to fill the huge gap in the batting line-up left by Dhoni’s retirement.
